I want to welcome everyone here tonight to this auspicious presence of God. There are many things that God does for us that we have the capacity or the propensity to take for granted. We were in a meeting some time ago and while the ministration was going on by the choir of that place. Dr. Mrs. Enenche told me, she said: ‘We want to really thank God for the privilege of giving us songs that minister to lives, songs that carry instant presence’. And I want to let us know that what God has done for us is not normal. Church Gist. The song you just heard now, the melody of it reminds me of (the) melodies of 200 years ago. John Alexander Dowie – I remember his song I heard from that Revival time. This is just reminding me of that Time. And we would want to give God the praise. Give the Lord the praise for His help in our lives. And I want to talk to our music people for the need for us to move these things out as fast as we can. A pastor called me from Edo State the other day. He wants to do a radio program and he wanted to use: ‘One Day Eternity Shall Start For All’ as the beginning sound for the radio program and he was asking for permission.
And I told him I said: The song is available but not officially out as it were, he should give us just a little time so that once it is officially out even though it is copyrighted, then he can pick it up. So we have a lot of people asking for some of the songs. I would like us to work on the songs that are classical sounding like this or practice songs, hymns-like songs, these and all those in this category for an album; that is like a hymn, like this one. And I am sure that it will help many people in their prayer life and so on. So let’s make that the immediate project to work on. Church Gist. How many of you will be excited with that? Hallelujah! In a matter of days, there would be a release of an acoustic album with guitar or minimal instrument and then lead vocal – very, very impactful. Once it is out, you will listen to it, you will hear what I’m talking about. It ushers you straight into the presence of God and it’s just for worship, prayer; it’s a reflection album. Just makes you think and reflect, it will be out very shortly. Somebody say a loud Amen. Are we excited with the privilege that God has given to us? Hallelujah! It is not of him that willeth or runneth, it’s of God who shows mercy. Anything we have seen or we are experiencing we didn’t work it out, it is of God who shows mercy. No one takes this honour upon himself except he that is called and we are grateful.
Joshua 1:8. I want to speak very quickly tonight on the subject: UTILIZING THE WORD (WHAT TO DO WITH THE WORD). And our objective is simple: It is to understand what to do with the Word of God. When I carry the Word of God, what do I do with it? In the course of this Month so far, we have looked deeply into the Word: We looked at ‘The Necessity Of The Word Of God’, we looked at ‘The Profit Of The Word Of God’, we looked at ‘The Blessing Of The Word Of God’, we looked at ‘Preservation By The Word Of God’. If you were not in any of the services please pick up the Message. And for those who sit at home when you can be in Church because television is possible and internet, don’t let any technology destroy your spiritual life. Church Gist. I’m speaking consciously to somebody. The Bible said: ‘They go from strength to strength; everyone in Zion appeareth before the Lord; not everyone in Zion seated before the television. If we were gathered together as we are in many locations today and we are all connected together watching or viewing the same thing, that is a different story. That is, we are still assembled together. The Bible said: ‘Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together as the manner of some is’. Hebrews 10:25. Everybody seated here tonight could stay at home and watch the television or watch the internet but they have come because Scripture says so.
In most of the Western World, Christian television destroyed their spirituality to a point where during COVID, everybody remained at home and when COVID time was over, Churches were closed because people didn’t return back to the physical building! Thousands! In their forty-something thousand Churches, in America! Yes! Thousands, tens of thousands! Church Gist. So I’m speaking to someone at home, don’t let Christian television… it’s a blessing, not a curse. It is meant to reach out to people who don’t know God or who are unable – that is, the situation is contrary. Everything is against their being able to be there physically, that is for who it is. Not for somebody to sit down, cross his legs and say: ‘I am sitting down in the comfort of my home, no’!!! That is not the order of God. And if you don’t follow the order of God, you will never see the wonders of God. All of us can sit at home and watch the television including the speaker.
During the COVID we taught from home even though I was still dressed in suit. Hallelujah! So we look at all these things: ‘The Blessing’ and I’m saying; pick up the Message or go and watch it – ‘The Blessing Of The Word’, ‘Preservation By The Word’, ‘The Necessity Of The Word’, ‘The Profit Of The Word’ and last Sunday we saw: ‘Accessing The Word’ – What I need to do to be able to get revelations from the Word? Church Gist. The question is, after I have gotten the revelation of the Word, God has shown me light, what do I do? What is the objective of insight? That’s the question we are trying to answer. What is the objective of accessing light? What do I do with the Word that I accessed? How do I make revelation become profitable? How do I make revelation to become my revolution? I might look at four, five, or more things and if I stop somewhere today, I might continue on Sunday and if we were able to finish it today, we proceed (to the) next. What do I do with revelation?
- Use the Word to change your mind.
To change your mindset. Mindset change is one of the things we utilize the Word of God to do. Mindset change. Isaiah 55:8-11. Meaning that the Word of God is the container of the thoughts of God. The Word of God is the container of the mindset of God. The Word of God contains the thinking pattern of God. The way God thinks is inside His Word. Pardon me to say: ‘You use the Word to wash your mind, to clean your mind, to sanitize the mind, to irrigate the mind’. Romans 12:1-2. Somebody say Amen! You know? We live in a world with very, very perverted thoughts. Church Gist. Thoughts where man is thinking of marrying man, woman is thinking of marrying woman. Somebody showed us a very ugly video the other day where they said those who think they have (an) affinity with dog or that feel like their expression is dog, that is their nature; they feel, there’s something about dog about them. That they should… They gathered in one room making dog sounds (Illustrating). Making dog sounds! Some of them wore masks with dog faces. I told somebody I said: ‘These people are betraying themselves. Shey these are people who are having relationships with dogs’? ‘And he that is joined to a harlot is one flesh’ so they became one with the dogs. So they thought they were dogs. We live in an upside-down, perverted world. The only thing that can keep a man’s mind straight is the Word (of God); that can make your mind remain correct is the Word irrespective of what the world thinks. Somebody say a loud Amen. Somebody say a louder Amen, somebody shout the loud most Amen. And there are three things I think is important here:
1a. We use the Word to think correctly, accurately and properly.
To think correctly, to think accurately and to think properly. Church Gist. Philippians 4:8 – all of those descriptions are descriptions of the Word. That thought syllabus is the whole of the Bible.
Why we should use the Word to change the quality of our thinking:
- Quality Of Thought Determines Quality Of Life: so, a change of thought equals the change of life. If the Word of God can change your thought it has changed your life. Church Gist. Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 23:7. A change of thought will produce the change of life. Remember the prodigal son in Luke 15:17.
- A change of thought translates into the change of results because there is a connection between thoughts and results. If a man’s results must change his thoughts must change. Proverbs 21:5. So when you’re using the Word of God to change your thought, you’re actually changing your results in life.
I heard something from Jesse Duplantis … I went to preach last year at Dr Bill Winston’s Church in Chicago and he preached (I think) a day before me or a day after, he said he realized that God owns the whole world and God has sent him on assignment around the world to go and preach the Gospel and he does not need to struggle to look for the money to preach the Gospel that is God’s. That is, God has the money and God sent him on errand and he is looking for money on behalf of God. Church Gist. He said he realized that there is no scarcity of money, it’s just that it is in the hands of wrong people. So he said, “Lord this year, we are going to do so and so in several countries of the world and the budget is… (he mentioned the amount to God)” – not 1 million dollars, not 10, not 20, not 30. He said, I need this amount just for the sake of the work this year. It arrived. If I call it, your head won’t be able to carry it, so, no need to call it.
Everybody the same with his assignment, there may be some struggling to arrive at such result but his mind changed by the Word, he brought result’s change. From the day I saw, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,” I saw that nobody owns any property on Earth. That the whole earth belongs to God, that anybody who has any paper in his hand called C of O (Certificate of Occupancy) is only a caretaker. From that day I knew that there is no property anywhere in the world we wanted (that) we can’t get. Church Gist. That is, if God wants it, if we see it and God needs it, it doesn’t matter who claims to be the owner per time, you must surrender it. Not free of charge, we can pay you for it but you must hand it over. They are caretakers – everybody including government is caretaker. The owner is Jehovah God. You use the Word to change your mind then it changes your result.
Years ago, when I saw the pattern of things that happen around where we come from, that is, you want to be a minister of the Gospel all manner of … You can’t cross this level, some are cut short before their time, the person that was bringing us up in the Lord was killed brutally in 1979, 1980 – saw his dead body the next day. I said to Papa Oyedepo, “I don’t want the pattern of what happens to the people who dare to preach the Gospel from that area.” Church Gist. Now, there are those who will be alive but alive without relevance. Of what use is age without change? So I said I don’t want the pattern from that side. He just laughed and said, you’re not from that side – that is his mentality. He said, you were assembled from Heaven; that place is only your port of arrival. The Airport you landed is not where you came from. When I went deeper into that statement I realized that, “you are of God. You’re not even of Nigeria, you’re not even of Benue State. You are of God and you have overcome all the things overcoming your people for greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.” When I saw that anywhere God needs me, nobody can stop me, I saw it in Isaiah 45:1-2 – that is, I said, go there, nobody can say you can’t go: visa officer, immigration…no way!
So you don’t just get revelation for getting sake, you use it to wash your mind, to change your thinking, to change your thought and you use the change of thought to grant you your result. When you have not gotten the light you will have some challenges. Church Gist. All of us, all the people I have just mentioned, it’s not as if everything was automatic from tge scratch, you jam rock, jam rock, then you look for revelation. That’s the truth of it – Papa Oyedepo suffered poverty until he said, “Lord, what is the secret of supernatural supply?” You jam rock then you settle down, “what is the Lord saying?”
Now, every revelation without mental renovation was a waste of revelation. Without the renovation of mentality, without renewal of the mind, every revelation you claim to get that does not renew your mind, you don’t begin to think differently and to look at things differently, something is wrong. It may not profit you. So you use the Word to change your mind.
- Use the Word to change your walk (your ways): you use the Word to change your walk that is, your ways, your actions. Church Gist. Isaiah 55:8-11. So the Word of God carries the thoughts of God, it also carries the ways of God. It carries the actions of God. So you use the Word of God to change your walk. Joshua 1:8. What you know is designed to influence what you do.
Three things we will note:
- You use the Word to influence your action and action determines outcome. The Word of God shapes actions, actions determine outcome. John 2:5. A change of action will inevitably result in a change of outcome. So the Word of God will influence your action, when your action changes, your outcome changes. Luke 5:5-6.
I’ve said it before, this is with all due respect: at the beginning of our ministry, it was very very common to see ministries and people that appear like the sponsors. This Church, this is the man behind it; that one, this the one behind it. Individuals – yes, one person. You could identify the person. It sounds strange to you now but it was very clear at that time. “This big man is in charge here,” and at that time we didn’t have any big man as it were, everybody was big. Church Gist. But I made up my mind – Psalm 34:5 – the only way I will not be ashamed is if I look up to God. Jeremiah 17:5-6. I said I can’t be like this, so I looked brutally away from mortal man. That is an action that came from revelation. That I’m not looking to man, I will respect you o, I will appreciate you, but look up to you? For where?
So there were times when somebody said, “I have a car for you at Asokoro can you come and pick it?” Me? Leave here and come to Asokoro to pick car? Keep your car and keep your gift.” They don’t carry prophet or priest to go and get gift. They take offering to the Church. By light and by insight, we decided to maintain the dignity of the calling; by not being anybody’s errand boy or pocket boy. That made us to preach anything anytime anyday until God brought us where he brought us. Church Gist. Most of those places where we saw identifiable sponsors, I think in all those places none of those sponsors are there anymore. They went to other Churches because I heard that in a particular place, after the pastor preached a particular message one Sunday some financial big wigs told the Pastor, “don’t preach this type next time; don’t preach like this next time.” That is, if you continue we will withdraw our offering. Nobody shall pocket your destiny!
At times, people will think that you are proud but you’re acting based on the Word. How many of you have come to such a point before? Church Gist. People think you’re proud, they think you’re arrogant, they think you’re too bold, you have too much temerity and effrontery but you’re acting based on the Word. It influences your action and your action determines your outcome.
One day a woman came here, an American woman very tall and she came with the arrogance and the tallness together. She said, “Pastor, I come from America…” she was speaking American slangs, “…just here to just find out what you people need because we have the ability to sponsor, to assist organisations such as this.” As she was talking with that arrogance, lion was roaring on the inside. “Who do you think you are? Do you know who you are talking to?” I looked at her and said, “calm down; if you need help let me know. Church Gist. This is not the kind of place where you come and you’re asking do you people have any need or any help, we will support you. This is not the type of place.” The pride broke on the spot. There are people who lost dignity because of a begging and beggarly lifestyle because they don’t understand the Word.
From here we send support to people in America, we have assisted people for house rent there before. I told somebody the other day, “if you can’t remain there, come back home.” Church Gist. So, the Word of God will assist your behaviour and your behaviour affects your becoming. So a change of action will inevitably lead to a change of outcome. Remember the story of the prodigal son – Luke 15:17-19
- Man’s action determines God’s reaction or response: that’s the law of Physics – to every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction. The Word of God affects your action and your action determines the reaction or the response of God. God sees that this my boy is obeying my Word, he’s not beggarly, he’s not borrowing, let me supply his needs. Church Gist. Man’s action determines God’s reaction or response. Mark 16:20. Until they went, God could not went. They didn’t sit down for the Lord to work with them, they went and God went. If you’re not wenting why do you want God to went? Exodus 14:21. I like us to understand that in the things we do, God is observing us. He is observing who is acting his Word and he is behaving accordingly.
In Area One, when the construction of the building was on, the Area One Church, the little tail there, it was meant to be an aircraft design – that front is meant to be the nose and there is a tower at the back with the tail, the completion of it was 10 Million Naira then and that 10 Million was no where to be found. So a bank came and said, can they assist us to bring the money so we can use it to complete that tail? Church Gist. Their condition was serious: I’ve told you before – every service they will come and carry the offering. You people will go with them to count the money in their bank. What a shame! I will put my God to this kind of shame? Jehovah can’t build his house? Let it remain unbuilt. When we behaved like that and said, no, God saw it. He said, is this how serious you’re taking my Word? I will bring you to the point where you will never beg or borrow. When you act, God watches. He knows who is acting his Word. This same bank came when we went to the Stadium. They said, “can they partner with us?” 2007 when Ron Kenoly was coming. What is the meaning of the partnership? They said they will contribute money for the publicity and advert and everything. “Okay? Yes, what else?” They said, but during the night vigil, those big stadium billboard, (the LED screen on the stadium), their bank advert will be running throughout the night till morning. I said, really? So that people will say, okay, we have been trying to find out the secret of this ministry – it is this bank. They were going to give us is it one million or so as their contribution. Church Gist. The venue alone was almost 5 or 10 million or something and they were going to give one million and then, we will give them the glory from night till morning. That bank doesn’t exist again. It has been acquired since. When we said no, God saw it.
So we go to Wembley Arena today, don’t put anybody under pressure, go to Kaduna Stadium – jammed to capacity, go to Port Harcourt, go everywhere. Church Gist. You’re not taking offering on the crusade ground and the supply is flowing because God saw it. Look at your neighbour say, “as you’re behaving, be calming down o, God is watching. “
Let me tell you a funny story: so one pastor was having a deal with that bank, he wanted to get loan then for their Church building. So the bank asked him, who will be his guarantor or surety? He mentioned my name that I will be his guarantor or surety. The bank said, “no way. He will not agree. The person who will not take loan for themselves will never surety another person.” Yes, it was the man who told me. The bank said, “no way; you can find another surety not that one.” The person who will not take loan for their own Church will not sign to surety another person. This is why many people are wondering why God is not reacting to them, responding to them as he should. Church Gist. He is watching our actions; he watches your body language. When you come around big people, the way you run around, the way you behave and lose control, the way you lose your dignity – God says, you know what? This man is a slave of man. The way you are beggarly requesting and beggarly behaving. He says, this guy he has other sources, let man solve him. He’s just watching you, watching us.
We were going to America, stopped in Germany, Frankfurt (connecting flight), a man brought me offering in Dollars at the Airport. Now, I don’t know him as such and I don’t trust him. So when I saw him he said, I have offering for you. It looks okay but, people have given me offering before in other places but…and it was Dollars. From the envelope it was clear. It was not a few notes, it was handsome. Church Gist. I looked at him and said, “I’m not sure I will collect the money.” Return back to Nigeria, when you come to Nigeria, come and meet me in the office and bring it again then we will talk. He carried it, the next time I saw him about 7 years later, he said I was the one who tried to give you that offering at Frankfurt – you didn’t collect it. He said, I have come, I just want to see you. I said, sit down let’s talk. If you don’t reject money, money won’t fear you.
There are times to say, no, even when it is a gift so that you can have respect even in front of … That was how the man introduced himself, “I was the one who brought the money and you refused.” God watches our actions. Church Gist. You’re missing road, missing road and everything is pressure, pressure, money money money, almost turn yourself into a slave to somebody who should be bowing for you and God is watching. It is over forever!
So you use the Word of God, by the time you hear some preachings, get some insight, it changes your mind set, your behaviour, your action. That was how someone said I should leave service and follow him because he wants to show me a 7-bedroom duplex. “What is it for?” He said, come and see it first then, I will tell you. I said, “it’s service time. Can we go later?” Church Gist. He said, no, that we should go now. I said, okay, in that case I am not going now. It was Healing and Deliverance Service. I should leave Healing and Deliverance Service because somebody wanted to show me a house. From his body language, it looks like he wants to give it as a gift but that didn’t matter to me. I had an appointment with God and God’s people and I must be in that Service. Church Gist. The man didn’t call me again and there’s no challenge. But I cannot testify about house now. No! That I got a house, praise the Lord! People celebrate with me’. Won’t you organize prayer? That there’s a challenge here. (Laughing).
If I said anything today, don’t forget this one I’m about to say: The right action from man will always provoke the right reaction from God. It will provoke the right response. Act correctly and you will see God respond correctly. Church Gist. The right action from man will always produce the right reaction or the right response from God. And the good thing is, it is the Word of God you use to shape your action.
2c. The final thing I will say is that the Word of God determines the step of man and your step determines your speed or progress. We take steps based on what we know of the Word and our steps determine our speed, our progress. Church Gist. The reason why many of us are not seeing the same level of progress in life is because we are not taking the same order of steps and it’s the Word of God that influences our steps. Genesis 26:12-13. The action of man, your steps determine your speed; your principles determine your product. Hallelujah! There is the potential of having more to say but I will stop here tonight. Genesis 26:12-13.
-Somebody is going forward today.
If I’m to take another point, it will push us so forward, so I’m going to continue from here by Sunday. But let me draw a conclusion at this junction:
- First, every time you study the Word, identify the change of mindset that is being produced by (the) received light. In what way is my mind changing? Romans 12:1-2. What I am studying now, how does it make me to think differently? For example, Proverbs 17:22. Church Gist. What is changing there? My mind-change means, do everything you can do to be merry, stop enjoying depression. ‘Let the weak say I am strong’. What changes am I receiving here? Don’t confess your condition, confess your revelation. No matter how bad it is, don’t express your situation, express your expectations. It’s designed to change your mind, it’s designed to change the way you think and reason. The only thing that will be the difference between you and the person who does not know God. It’s the change in mindset that the Word of God has produced in your life.
- It’s the same thing! Every time you study the Word, identify action steps to take from the received light.
‘On the basis of what I just saw, this is the way I will begin to act’. And let me tell you, even if you’re a Professor of Theology and you live for 90 years. In your 91st year, you will still see something from the Word that will change your behaviour, except it is not the Living Word. You will still… In your 95th year of life and you have been studying the Bible for 70 years, you will still see something that will change how you behave, how you act. Someone say a loud Amen. Church Gist. When you saw Paul and Silas, they beat them black and blue and they were singing praises in the Temple. You tell yourself, the next time the devil confronts me, I will give him the praise response. ‘Having done all to stand, stand’! ‘I have done everything I know to do, my situation has not changed’. But the Bible said… The situation has not changed – ‘Having done all to stand, stand’! ‘Having done all to stand, fall’! That’s not what He said. ‘Having done all to stand, cry’! ‘Having done all to stand, regret’! Be depressed! ‘Having done all to stand, stand’! So, I am standing and I stand until my change comes. Somebody say a loud Amen.
‘Lord! I’m trusting to hear Your voice, I need direction’. And I saw in Isaiah 30:29… I’ve tried to hear God and I haven’t heard Him yet. So, I want to follow this syllabus:
-You shall have a song
-Holy solemnity, be solemn
-Possess gladness of heart
-In the night
So, let me wake up in the middle of the night and let me try and see if I will hear God. (Speaking in tongues) 🎶 Lord! I’m following Isaiah 30:29-31 syllabus. I need to hear your voice, Lord! Above the noise of the world 🎶. And I am just worshipping! (Speaking in tongues). Suddenly! My mind becomes flooded with light, flooded with insight! A Scripture verse drops, I pursued that verse (Speaking in tongues). I read the whole chapter, all of a sudden I began to hear His voice. This is what I’m saying, look at this verse. 🎶 I need to hear your voice, Lord! Above the noise of the world, above the will of the flesh, above every other voice 🎶. Church Gist. Jeremiah 6:16. So Lord! I’m at a junction, there are three guys asking for my hand in marriage, where is the good way? This one looks handsome, is he the one? This one has money, is he the one? This one has a lot of great things but he’s average, he doesn’t have too much money yet. Which one among them? Jeremiah 6:16. Many times we don’t ask, we want to assume. ‘So Lord! I am asking, what is the way’? (Speaking in tongues). Then He directs me to go and look at the selection process where Samuel was looking for David and I read through. While I am reading, light comes and the torchlight is pointed at the person: That is the one.
When it was time for me to find who to marry, ‘Lord’! In fact, the Lord spoke to me at first, He said: ‘You are at a junction’ and I was a student but about graduation but my impact had been so massive. And He said: ‘I don’t want you to be confused, as you step into ministry in time to come, I want to clarify to you’. I said: ‘Lord! I separated like 7 days (Speaking in tongues)’. Day one, day two – one character dropped, one quality of the person. I didn’t know who yet. (Speaking in tongues). Day two, day three. Before those 7 days were over, the picture came together. It’s like a puzzle where you have this part, that part, together. Church Gist. ‘Oh! Is this the person? No! I didn’t think she was the person. I had been praying for the person to get a good husband.
