PRAYERS FOR POSSIBILITIES (3)
What is prayer?
Prayer us seeking divine intervention over any given situation on the basis of the Word of God. Luke 11:1. It is those who are taught prayers that pray effectively, you don’t just speak English, you speak English by learning it, you don’t speak French just because you’re born, you have to learn how to speak French. In the same way, you don’t pray by just praying as some people believe, prayer is meant to be taught. ChurchGist. You don’t just get up to speak a language, they teach you the language, am I communicating? When prayer is void of answers it’s a wasted religious exercise.
The essence of prayer is to get an answer, so to be praying without getting an answer is a waste of time, it’s an exercise in futility, that won’t be your portion. Psalm 65:2. God does not store prayers he answers, how will it look if you pick up a phone and you’re saying Hello! Hello! And nobody is answering you, you keep talking and nobody is answering you, is that wisdom. Hello! Hello! Whether you hear me or not I am talking and after you’re done you just hang up and say I am through. Any prayer that does not receive an answer is a religious exercise in futility. ChurchGist. There are some basic requirements for a successful prayer life, many think that you just get up to pray. No! There are some things that must be in place. Today, I am going to dissect 7 things why prayers are not answered.
SOME REASONS FOR UNANSWERED PRAYERS.
I have taught you how you can pray for your prayers to be answered. Now, you’ll know some reasons for unanswered prayers, you can know the Word, you can quote scriptures but if these things are in place the prayers will not be answered. ChurchGist. You can quote scriptures, the right scriptures, you can fast, you can have faith but if these things I am about to reveal to you are part of it, the prayer will not be answered.
1) UNCONFESSED SINS
Isaiah 59:1-2. When there is a sin in the heart that is not confessed God will not hear you no matter how hard you pray. Psalm 66:18. Proverbs 28:13. ChurchGist. We must confess our sins before our prayers will be answered, if your prayers must be answered then that sin in your heart must not remain hidden. You must confess our sin because our prayers will not be answered if we hide iniquity in our hearts.
God will not hear you if there is a hidden sin in your heart, identify it, confess it, repent from it and forsake it. ChurchGist. Sin will lose its power and God will hear you from today. Strive to see sin become a thing of the past in your life. 1st John 1:7-9. Confession is the seed for divine acceptance. So, genuinely you confess any sin you know about, you don’t pretend, you present yourself in the court of Heaven and you say: oh God, this is what I have done, have mercy and forgive me, is that clear, even if nobody knows God knows, so to hide iniquity before God is absolute foolishness, because he is the one that will hear you and sin is a barrier.
So, the first thing you’ll do is to tell God: Father, I am not hiding it from you, even if nobody knows. I will give you the next three minutes to say Lord, if there be any hidden sin that is hindering my prayers, today under this unction forgive me, wash me with your blood and if you know a particular one, don’t pretend call it by name, you don’t need to shout, say it in your heart and God will hear you, it’s not an open prayer, Lord you know that I did this and that, even if nobody knows, you know Lord, have mercy and forgive me of my sins, go ahead and pray, this is not pretending, God knows everyone of it, if you want to sit or kneel go ahead, but show that you’re telling God to have mercy. ChurchGist. Go ahead and pray to God in the name of Jesus.
I stand in my office as God elects, to those who have confessed their sins your sins are forgiven, every prayer you offer, heaven will answer in Jesus mighty, give him a big hand and you may be seated.
2) WHEN YOUR MOTIVE IS WRONG.
Look at the area where you missed it and then you connect, that how to pick it. James 4:3. Most times what we are praying about is different from what is in our heart, a motive is the reason for doing something, that’s what a motive is. 2nd Chronicles 25:2. Motive has to do with the heart, you’re praying oh God prosper me, what is your motive? He should prosper you too so what? To oppress people, you may say oh God if you prosper me, I will build churches but inside you you’re saying I will deal with that man who says he has money. I will show him that I have also arrived. And God will say you will never prosper, your motive is wrong, the prayer will not be answered. ChurchGist. Psalm 37:4-5. Motive matters to God.
I told you something yesterday, I was praying for a man in Lagos, who has gone to be with the Lord, we were together, he said pastor I want to be the secretary, that time Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) was just starting, the Minister for Petroleum then was close to him and he said he wants to make him secretary. ChurchGist. As he was coming, he said pastor I want to be a secretary but inside his heart he was pursuing to be a Governor. I prayed every prayer I could pray yet it was not working. My wife worked me up, she said she saw this man campaigning, I said what has the campaign got to do with LNG, in less than 3 years he said he wants to be the Governor of a state, my wife said I thought I told you. So, when we were praying, the prayer was not working because what was in his heart was governorship and he was saying secretary with his mouth.
Oh God give me a husband, but this boy is going nowhere. Pray for me pastor I want to marry but this one I have I won’t let him go, no way. So, it is this one I really want, but anyways, pastor just pray. So, God will say your motive is wrong, you want this man and I want another person. ChurchGist. So, what is your motive when you’re praying? A life story, a pastor walked to my office and he was talking, he said God has blessed you, he was just talking and talking, I knew something is wrong, all of a sudden, he said I was driving by and I saw the generators, I saw everything and I said what are you doing that we are not doing? God said to me his heart is wrong. He felt like what am I doing that is making me to prosper and what is he doing that he is not prospering, the motive why he was asking was wrong. You that don’t even look like it, and you have stuff and we have been in the Lord with all our holiness and nothing is working. So, the reason why he could not prosper is because his motive was to compete with me. So, God did not answer him, he’s still a poor man till today. I am not competing with anybody, so when I pray God answers.
I don’t know what another pastor is preaching, there is nothing to compete about, I mind my own business. Many people are saying lord bring growth to our church out of a competitive spirit and God is saying your motive is wrong, you’re not saying grow the Church for my kingdom, you’re saying grow the Church so that people will respect me. ChurchGist. So that when I am moving, 50 policemen can move alongside. God is saying your motive is wrong. So, when you pray, check your motive.
3) UNFORGIVEN SPIRIT.
Mark 11:25. Even if you say God forgive me and you don’t forgive people that prayer will not be answered. Matthew 5:7. How many want to obtain mercy? It is important for us to learn how to forgive, I forgive people in advance. ChurchGist. Jesus knew that it would be difficult for us to forgive, he knew. So, he admonishes us to love our enemies, because he knows that in the natural you can’t forgive. Luke 6:35-37. Don’t forgive and you shall not be forgiven, condemn people and you shall be condemned too, be a critic, they will criticize you.
Unforgiveness affects every area of your life, your faith won’t work unless you forgive, your prayers won’t work unless you forgive, your prayers will not be answered unless you forgive. Is that clear? Mark 11:23-25. So, before you use your faith and prayer, forgive. ChurchGist. Many will say I have forgiven but I cannot forget, you know what to forgive means? To forgive means to seize resentment against an offender, any time you’re still reserved against somebody who did something to you; you have not forgiven, are you hearing me now? Some of you in this Church have abused me, abused me seriously, yet am I not the one praying for you to prosper. Some of you even today will still abuse me, thus it stops me from praying for you? Some of you will say the way Papa talks, his mouth is too sharp.
Let me say this to you, that I say forgive does not mean you should forgive Spiritual wickedness, you don’t forgive Spiritual wickedness, that somebody is using charm against you, don’t forgive that one. The Bible says suffer not a witch to live, somebody is a witch you don’t forgive them o, forgive is only in the physical things, somebody cannot carry your name to witch doctor and you’re saying God said I should forgive them. ChurchGist. Forgiveness is for physical things, somebody insulted you, your head is big, will it be small. Forgive him, all your mates are married, you’re not married, forgive the person. The young man left you and married another girl that you didn’t believe, forgive him. He has left you, forgive him so that you can also marry. When he is passing don’t say that you will die with this woman, forgive him because God will give you your own husband and I pray for everyone who obeys God’s Word whatever blessing that was hanging will be released to you right now, forgive him and God Will give you your own husband, that is not your own husband, if he is your husband, he won’t leave you. Somebody better will come.
The woman too is not your wife, may be she left you after you trained her in school, it was in final year she now knew that you’re not qualified, it is now that I am going to NYSC, we are not matching each other, it’s only in final year that they are not matchable. Year 1 – Year 3 he paid school fees and now youth services time you’re saying no I don’t like him; the condition is not favourable. Please from year 1 stop eating the money, but forgive her because she has gone, God will give you your own. ChurchGist. Learn to forgive. If I don’t forgive many people I won’t be here. Me I forgive, I have told you over and over how I forgive people. One day I told my driver to carry to somebody he said sir, sir, sir to who. I said “my friend go and give him the car”. He said what kind of person are you, I said shut up, obey what I have said that’s all, I forgave him someone that used to abuse me when I used to wear one coat. You know a suit is different from a coat, how many of you know coat?
So, I wore a coat to a conference in Lagos, then winners chapel was in Iyana Ipaja, so I wore the coat from Monday till the end of the conference. I don’t have two, I only have one. So, I wore the coat in the morning, afternoon and evening, you know the way Bishop Oyedepo runs his conferences, so he notices that I wore that one coat from the beginning to the end of the conference. ChurchGist. So, he came close to me, you know the way someone will abuse you that all is left is just for him to mention your name. He stood and said some of you said God called you, I don’t know, you can’t even change your dress, you can’t even change your suit, he was saying it to me and I knew he was talking to me, it was just left for him to say I am talking to you. I did as if I did not hear, after he was done, he left.
In less than 2 years he came to Shiloh and did not have money, you know God Will make you to remember stuff like that, the money with him could not even pay for his accommodation and I had bundles of money that time, life has changed, I was not wearing coat I was wearing suit. He said oh you’re around, I greeted him, he said it is well o, I said what is the issue, he said I don’t have money, I just put my hand in my pocket and gave him a bundle. ChurchGist. I said go and pay for your accommodation, he didn’t know what to do again.
I decree as you forgive people, your Heavens open now, as you forgive, I declare whatever blessing that was hanging be released in the name of Jesus.
Please, I know your mother-in-law offended you, forgive her. ChurchGist. So, that your prayers can be answered. Yes, your mother-in-law did not agree when you were to marry her son but forgive her, she is your mother-in-law, without her (you can’t take the egg and throw away the chicken that lays the egg) there won’t be a husband, you love your husband, love the mother like that.
How many will forgive? Lift your right hand and say: Lord, remind me of anyone I have not forgiven, there are some people you will never forgive, you know why Joseph became great, he could forgive his brothers, if it was Reuben, he would have said you people, you threw me into the pit, I will show you hell.
I have shared a testimony before, as a young man, I stayed with someone and I came back from where I travelled to and the door was locked, he changed all the keys and I stood by the door with tears running down from my eyes and I walking from Ogba to Ikeja Bus stop confused, scattered and shattered. I said God what do I do now? As I was moving, God said to me: I will use you, as I was moving, I heard him. ChurchGist. All things work together for good. God told me to stand, I heard God for the first time, He said I am going to use you.
Now, the same person came to me years after and said pastor my wife has left me. I have nowhere to stay. Can you help me, lend me some money and I said I won’t borrow you; you were good to me, you housed me. So, I am going to give you 20 million, don’t bring it back I am dashing you this money. Take this 20 million and take this one for house rent. So, in all 20 million +, I didn’t say take it because you locked the door, I said take it because you housed me in the past, you were good to me, I didn’t refer him to what he did, today we have a relationship, that is why God has lifted me. ChurchGist. Forgive people. It hinders prayers. I am not the most righteous but God hears me, there are many factors. For just a small offence and you hold people in your heart.
Even inside the Church, there are people you would never greet, what makes you a Christian, you can say your own, I don’t believe the Bible, which one would you believe, if you don’t believe the Bible what will you believe. You better believe the Bible so that God will hear you.

4) WHEN YOU ARE NOT GENEROUS.
Lack of generosity hinders prayers
Proverbs 21:13. Learn to be free handed, it takes more than God bless you, as God has blessed you at your level, be free towards others. When you’re stingy and wicked God will never hear your prayers. ChurchGist. Somebody is saying I am hungry and you told him God bless you, when you can give the person food to eat, the Bible says when you cry, he will not hear. May God hear you today, these are simple things that make prayer not to be answered. You can’t come to my house and not eat except you’re fasting, when you come to our house, you must eat.
5) ILL TREATMENT OF FAMILY MEMBERS.
1st Peter 3:7(AMP). Can I say this to you, check any man who does not give his wife pocket money, he will be broke. No matter how he prays, check all men who don’t give their wives allowance, no prayer will make them rich, it’s not because you don’t have it; it’s a spiritual law. I have not seen one man of God who does not give his wife money that ever prospers, when your wife starts feeding the house, poverty has started. ChurchGist. She may be rich but give her the little you have, once you don’t do that, if you pray from now till tomorrow, the oil on you will be running dry. Demon is not the cause of our problem most times, you will pray from now till tomorrow, the Church won’t grow, the business won’t grow, nothing will grow. I have not seen one man who is wicked to his family and he prospered in life. It’s a law.
If you don’t live with your wife in an intelligent manner, you will hinder your prayers. Hindering your prayer is like having God hang up the phone while you’re making your request to him, that’s the meaning. You’re praying to God and God says no way, I remove my hand. So, at your level start giving, from the days when I was earning #1,500 as my salary, I give my wife feeding money. ChurchGist. My first salary in this ministry was #1,500 and my last salary was #15,000, I told them to stop my salary because I want to prove what I teach. I am a super prosperous man without a salary. I didn’t say my wife my salary is #1,500 what will I give you, I will give her what I have, I won’t kill myself. It’s a covenant, I still remove my tithe from that #1,500, I removed my offering too and I still gave her feeding money.
How she wants to feed is not my business, my own is to obey the word of God and we kept growing from #1,500 to #5,000 to #15,000, I told them to stop, I know this thing I will prove to you that I will prosper without salary. I stopped collecting my salary long ago. I am not earning salary and she (my wife) is not earning salary too, but we are blessed. ChurchGist. Listen, you don’t know what you’re doing treating your family anyhow. Wicked oga! I will show myself, you’re showing yourself o. Okay, since you’ve been showing have you prospered, that should tell you that something is wrong, please from today change. Don’t say how much, the reason why the money is not growing is because you’re not doing the right thing.
6) WORSHIP OF IDOLS/IDOLATRY
Exodus 20:1-5. When you serve other God’s you invoke the wrath of God, idol worship is of the devil it’s not our forefather’s religion. People when they want to be funny, they will say that is what our fathers do, idol worship is not our forefathers’ religion. 1st Kings 18:21. Joshua 24:15. ChurchGist. There are four kinds of idol worship, if you find yourself in any of them, it will affect you.
FOUR KINDS OF IDOLS
A) ANY MAN-MADE GOD
Exodus 20:1-5. Any graven image that demands the worship of men is an idol, anything made by man that you have to bow to is an idol, don’t worship it; it will affect your life forever. ChurchGist. Because God is a jealous God. Idol worship is dangerous, it opens the door for attack. Some of you are in church yet you still belong to occult groups; be careful. You can’t mix the two, the day you die God will reject you, Satan will reject you, I wonder where you will go. Please, if God is God them clean up, don’t worship other gods
B) WORSHIP OF MONEY
Exodus 20:23, 32:31. Today we have all manner of love for money, people do anything to get money, it’s demonic and satanic. Colossians 3:5-6. Covetousness is the love of money, it’s idolatry. When you covet after anything you see, it’s idolatry, you can do anything to get money. ChurchGist. No! God said it’s idolatry. Many do anything to get money in this world. They can betray, blackmail and frame up anybody just to get money. They can tell lies to get money, they can kill and she’d blood to get money. No! That’s not how it is meant to be. Luke 12:15. Matthew 6:24. You can’t serve God and money.
Having money does not mean serving money. It’s not having money that brings worship but money having you, when money has you, then you’re worshipping it. ChurchGist. That means you can do anything as long as it is to get money. If they want to use your hand, you’ll use your teeth, if they close your teeth, you will use your eyes to carry it, today you can see where people are doing terrible things for money. Some are ready to kill their own blood, their mothers who gave birth to them, the mother who gave birth to you, some will pound their own children, the child that they gave birth to for money. Some will kill their spouse for money, that’s the life of today, even in the Church. All of you who are believers who are close to your brothers you know them; they are telling you to come and collect a house. Please ask yourself? Your brother who hates you, why will he call you to come and collect a free house? When you’re offered free things, it is not all of them that you are meant to receive. You pick in there and you die there.
The man hates you because of church all of a sudden, he builds a massive house and invites you to come and take one portion of the house and you’re saying your brother likes you, he has finished you before you accept the house. Nobody will finish your life. ChurchGist. It’s better to live in your 1 room that God gave you than to live in a mansion where you will die early. You know that the man is a Juju man and you’re sending your children to go to his place for holidays.
Some of you are in Church, you’ll come to church with one leg because of politics and you will end up disappointing God. What kind of appointment will make you disappoint God just for money, you will now fill Ogboni form and you’re a Christian, you’re a disgrace to Christianity. ChurchGist. You’re ready to enter an occultic group because they want to give you a commissioner for no movement.
C) WORSHIP OF SELF/PRIDE.
This has to do with pride, God will never answer a proud man, you need to meet proud people, even when they are wrong, they will never accept. You know why God did not answer Saul and he answered David? Saul’s mistakes were not as much as David’s mistakes. ChurchGist. But the difference between Saul and David is that Saul was a very proud man, even when he was wrong, he said I did it because (that’s how you know a proud person) Proud people don’t ever accept their fault. If you’re wrong you’re wrong.
David said Nathan, I am wrong, what you’re saying is right, but when Saul told Samuel that it’s good that we give God the big things, he said but I told you to destroy everything, do I need sacrifice from you? I asked you to destroy everything. When you’re Proud it will show even in your speech, am I the only one, that is the first sign of a proud person. ChurchGist. Please! Leave this thing jor, even the pastor does it. You’re proud, if you’re not proud when someone corrects you; your response will be Lord please show mercy. Instead, you’ll shout, people do it, I am not the only one doing it. You’re the only one o.
A typical example is Nebuchadnezzar, worship of self is a product of pride. Let’s study Nebuchadnezzar’s life. Daniel 4:30-37. Worship of self is a form of idolatry, you don’t need to be rich or successful to be proud, when you hear some people talk, you will think they are God, they attribute everything to themselves. ChurchGist. When you see a man who wants to fall, the first thing he does is attribute everything to himself. Look, if I am not there nobody will make it in this system, I will make it, your falling has started, when you hear a man talking like that just know that his end has come.
Life story, there was a man called Sani Abacha, most of you will not know him because you’re young, he was one time the military ruler of Nigeria. Now, they have many TV stations. ChurchGist. In those days, there used to be one Nigeria major news and it was called 7 o’clock news, it was network news. So, before the 7 o’clock news (unlike now we have plenty of radio stations, Nigeria had one major radio station, where every old man listens to 7 o’clock News) they will come up with a song.

A song meant for God and it’s Christians who composed, I called my wife and I told her God showed me that they were holding a cabinet meeting and a palm tree fell and killed him and I said Abacha will soon die, I said mark my words, she was there, Pastor Charles was there and few of other people were there. I said watch Abacha will soon die. ChurchGist. He died in Aso Rock, he died somewhere with some people like that. You want God to hear you? You’re not the most beautiful woman o, be careful. You look disdainfully at everybody that talks to you and God will say with this your pride nobody will marry you; you will say who can talk to me in this Church, is it because Pastor David is talking, you can’t to me, I have my PhD, please keep your dollars and with all that I have read who will talk to me and with your PhD nobody wants to come near you. Please, nothing hinders prayers like being proud.
D) THE WORSHIP OF HUMAN
This where many of us are victims, many of us are not victims of pride but this one, this is the major problem of Christians and people. Jeremiah 15:5-8. Human worship is what we call godfatherism, never call any mortal man my god father. ChurchGist. Never! It’s a wrong language, don’t follow sinners to use that language, nobody can be a God and a father to you. That man is my mentor but not my godfather, it’s human worship. No mortal man can be your godfather, it’s a wrong English and for some of us, that’s my political godfather, the two of you will sink, somebody can’t be your godfather instead that is my mentor in politics, not your godfather, they day he will fall you will fall with him. ChurchGist. God said it is a curse and some of us put our trust in men, we don’t even remember God when we are praying, even when we are praying: Father, I know the Governor will help me, the President, I know him so no problem. God will be looking at you.
Everybody take your two eyes up, look up to the ceiling of your house, are your two eyes up? Try to bring one down, don’t pretend to be looking up to God and be looking up to man. ChurchGist. God can use any man but don’t look up to the man he’s using. Psalm 221:1-2. I have never looked up to any mortal man for help, thank God for whatever you think you’re doing, but I will never look up to you, you’re not my source. Don’t make man God over your life.
Anything outside the most high God that requires your worship is an idol. Psalm 16:4. so, those who have other God’s their sorrow will multiply. We think idolatry is only when we go to Juju house, some of us our idol is ourselves, to others it’s human beings, to others it’s money, otherwise why would somebody betray his former boss because of money, don’t you have conscience? Have you not seen politicians who betray people? They jump from this party to another party, they keep moving around, they call their boss a thief, so when you were following him, you didn’t know that he was a thief. Yes, you have gone then keep quiet, must you run down your boss who was the one who lifted you, all is because of money. ChurchGist. They gave them money to talk against him. If they pay you to run down somebody, you’re digging your grave. Never collect any money to run anybody down.
These are small things that hinders prayers.
7) LACK OF FAITH
Matthew 9:27-30. Faith is an important factor in the school of prayer, its faith filled prayers that God loves. So, it’s faith that gives substance to your prayer. It’s not faith when you say God can do it, I know God can do it is not faith, it is faith when you say because God has said this, I know he will do it. Faith means you have a scripture you’re standing on, that means you have a scripture you’re standing on. I know God can heal me is not faith, I know God will do it because he said by His stripes I am healed. ChurchGist. Faith is standing in the integrity of God’s Word on your prayer and say based on what he said then this will happen.
Faith is not saying God can do something, faith is standing on the Word of God to commit God to answer your prayers. So, God can do it without the Word of God is not faith, that’s only an assumption.
