The theme for this June week of spiritual empowerment is THE WONDERS OF THE WORD – THE POWER OF PERSONAL REVELATION.
Ecclesiastes 3:14. Whatever God does is forever and God and His Word are one. So whatever miracle the Word of God does is forever. Any miracle you get from the Word of God will last forever. Church Gist. Hear this well people of God: prayer from men of God, prayer from people can generate results; but such results cannot be compared to what you get by personal revelation. He can pray for you and you get breakthrough but permanent revelation from God’s Word is forever.
- The miracle you will get after now will be forever in the name of Jesus!
You don’t fail in exam because you don’t know anything; you fail because you don’t know enough. People don’t fail because they don’t know what to write but what they wrote is not enough for them to pass. Unfortunately, there is no exam in Church, so many are not taking their lives seriously. Church Gist. Do you take exams serious because at the end of the day they give you certificate? But we don’t write any exam in Church so people take life very casual. Is that true? Just imagine a student who never reads his/her notes, never consult textbooks, it’s impossible for such student to be a first class student no matter how gifted. Habakkuk 2:4b; Romans 10:17; Mark 9:23; Joshua 1:8. If you look at Scriptures, you will understand that life is a personal adventure. It is not the duty of pastors to be praying for you; any Church you go to where you are not taught, you will not last as a Christian. And any Christian who does not want to grow, who will depend on people’s prayers will not go too far in Christian adventure. It’s not the duty of pastors to be doing things for you, we can pray for you with our anointing but don’t depend on people. Jeremiah 3:15. The true work of a pastor is to study and feed God’s people; it’s not to pray for people. We don’t like knowledge, people just want pray for me. So you have the responsibility to read the Bible for yourself. You know why? No matter how close a wife is to her husband, the wife cannot eat on behalf of the husband. Church Gist. No matter how you love somebody you can’t borrow somebody’s brain to pass an exam. No matter how you love somebody, you can’t use another man’s head lamp to drive your car. So you have the responsibility to know the truth. Why you need to discover the truth is because everybody’s challenge is personal. Satan has no respect, he does not say, I attack only women, I attack only men. True? And if you don’t accept responsibility, according to my mentor, you will end up a liability. Say I will accept personal responsibility. Psalm 45:3-5. You can’t have this truth (the Word of God) and not prosper; if you’re not prospering you have not encountered the truth. The deeper your depth, the higher the altitude you scale.
For instance, to live a victorious life there is no short cut, you need to build your faith with the Word of God. You can’t live a victorious life in this wicked world without building your faith with the Word of God. For instance you say, “Well, I don’t know why things are not working for me.” Ask yourself, “Are you working for God?” Church Gist. You’re not doing anything for God yet you are blaming God because you don’t know the Word. And you know, if you blame God, God will leave you alone. Blame Him from now till tomorrow, He is still God. He says, I am that I am. You’re the one who consciously change your position with the way you’re doing things so your situation can also change. If you love God, everything will work together for your good. Romans 8:28. It’s foolishness to be angry with God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17. God’s Word is for our profiting. You can live an enviable life with the Word of God. Discovered truth can enhance your human dignity on the Earth in all realms of life. You can’t discover the truth and not triumph. 1 Timothy 4:13-15. Sit down with the Word of God because with the Word of God you can get food. We went to preach and somebody said, ‘give me money.’ I said the man you went to vote did he give you money? Church Gist. You may say, ‘but I have done the reading practice and nothing to show for it.’ Then, watch it, something must be wrong somewhere. Hebrews 4:2. God’s Word is for open profiting so if it is not profiting you, watch whether your faith is connected to the Word. Acts 20:32. Your inheritance and my inheritance are in this book (the Bible). There are too many lazy Christians. Stop being religious, be real to yourself. For anybody to fail in this dispensation, don’t blame the devil. There are too many books for somebody to read to succeed. Are you getting me? In this dispensation of Christianity, to be a failure is anathema.
- You won’t fail.
Your situation is not the worst; I can tell you the truth. I am not talking to you because I am angry with you, no! You think poverty is noble? No! There is no nobility in poverty. As married people 1997, my wife and I, we had at home 50 naira not 50,000. Today, there is nothing in Nigeria that costs 50 naira. So don’t tell me your own is the worst. And I sat down with the Word and I said I hate this poverty, I can’t be begging people up and down. Church Gist. Do you think I’ve not begged before? I have begged oo, stylishly or somehow. I’ve been lying to you if I say I have not begged before. Begging has style. Have you not seen people beg? They will be saying it so that you will hear them. ‘My children’s school fees I no know how God go do am oo’ na beg he dey beg. He is invariably saying please give me money to pay school fees.
So I sat down with the Word; I picked Gloria Copeland’s book and I picked my mentor’s book breaking financial hardship because I heard his testimony of how he came out of poverty. And I ate the books; I got to a point after reading, I sat down, with deep meditation I said God I am a tither, I give offering, but I don’t like this getting money and getting broke. Church Gist. What must I do not to be broke for life? I was on the bed after reading the books, I said, Lord give me the secret of kingdom wealth. While I was saying that, the voice of God came, majestically, he said who is blessing you? I said of course, David Oyedepo. He said don’t you know without a prophet you can’t prosper? If you want to prosper after your tithe and your offering, sow to your prophet. I said, that’s my secret. He said because without all contradiction, the less is blessed of the better (Hebrews 7:7). Until you sow to the prophet you will never prosper. I said my wife, bring the 50 naira. I brought the 50 naira put in an envelope. I didn’t go to see him (Oyedepo), you don’t need to see a prophet to get a prophet’s profit. The profit does not come by you seeing the person. Covenant walk is not a physical contact. I just packaged the 50 naira in obedience. Less than 2 hours, somebody knocked on my door. This man who knocked on my door, if I beg him he will give. Church Gist. That was the first day in my life he gave me money without begging. He said, I have 10,000 and I want to give you 2,000. It’s like giving me 200 million now. I said wow, this thing works like this? I removed tithe, remove offering, remove prophet offering, and the rain fell again and has been falling from that time till now. I said if Bishop Oyedepo laid hands, prayed for me, I may have breakthrough once but what I discovered brought the permanent breakthrough. Do you understand what I am saying? I didn’t use his own revelation to work with; I had to discover it for myself because I can’t use his headlamp to drive my car. Nobody can go to the convenience on your behalf, when you are pressed you will go there, no matter how polished you are. Church Gist. You don’t have to like to read you have to read. 1 Timothy 5:17. Bible reading is labour. Labour in the Word as to guarantee a colourful destiny/future.
We belong to a generation that does not like reading-all over the world! Do you know? If you travel on borne any plane from Nigeria for instance, to the Western world, and you have 15 Nigerians, and 5 people from the western world, all the 5 people will hold something to read. It is 15 Nigerians that will talk till they arrive. Church Gist. We don’t read, we only read in school to pass exam and that’s not reading. Well, the labour is a two-sided labour: you labour to find the right Scriptures, then you labour to engage in the practice of what you have found. Many labour to find scriptures but don’t labour to practice what they have found. Can I tell you something that will shock you? From 1997 this ministry started for instance, we have not failed one month from paying tithe as a Church. But there are people who went to Bible school with me who have not paid tithe from that day till today. You think God respects me more and love me more? Church Gist. No, I am only doing what they are not doing. If you see somebody getting results, don’t say he is lucky; there is no luck inside. I labored to find the truth and I am also practicing the thing I discovered.
There are people in this Church who are new, who are making it, and there are people who have been in this Church since this Church started, in fact, they know the foundation of this Church, yet nothing to show in their lives. You know why? They hear all the preachings, they don’t put to practice. They say, I’ve been in this Church for 20 years, we are the founders. Church Gist. When you discover the truth and put the truth to practice, no devil can stop you from taking delivery of your inheritance in Christ.
Hebrews 10:23. Profession, not only confession. The charismatics have confessed and confessed till some of them are confused. Church Gist. God is saying, don’t only confess scriptures but also do the scriptures (profession). So, revelation is the gateway to colourful destiny and application guarantees the delivery of your inheritance.
Your most valuable success habit in your life is your daily reading of the Word of God to find out the truth for yourself. Acts 17:11. If you don’t read Bible you can be carried away by wrong doctrine.
Somebody came up to me long ago when we started this ministry, a man of God walked to me and sat and said pastor I have a message for you. I was looking at him. I said what’s the message? He said I saw a big chair one man was sitting. Church Gist. He finished talking and I said, ‘pastor are you through? Open to Hebrews 12:22-24. Look at the roll call of those who attend Church. Inside the roll call was the devil mentioned? I said Pastor I respect you but that vision is for you.’ This thing you said is what you felt, I’m sure you didn’t eat well. He couldn’t move out of my office but if I was not a Bible student, I will believe him. The most effective weapon the enemy can use against you is ignorance of the Word of God. Hosea 4:6. So destruction can only occur to the ignorant. It is the lack of knowledge that is causing lack of all things. Church Gist. People are not destroyed not because of demons, they are destroyed because of ignorance and ignorance simply means something you have ignored to know. Please stop playing religion, sit down for personal revelation of the truth of the Word of God.
Look at Jesus for instance, the messiah himself, the Word himself, he knew the Word, spoke the Word, being the Word he shouldn’t read the Word but hear the Bible in Luke 4:16-20. Until He opened to read, He could not see what was written concerning Him. Church Gist. The Word read the Word to discover what was written in the Word concerning Him. Settle with the Word of God if you don’t want to be worthless on Earth. You say you cannot read, then, listen to tape of the Word.
My grandmother was not educated; I met her reading Igbo Bible. Then, there was no Bible in the place where she came from, they only had Igbo Bible. I have a boy in my house who did not go to school. But this guy knows from Genesis to Revelation. Church Gist. He’s a sound part time pastor, more sound than people who have Masters degree in the Word. One day I was talking to one of my associates, you’ve never quoted Scripture to me, this boy will come and quote Scripture to me. You have degree, I will drop your degree; carrying certificate and nothing to certify.
Satan came to Jesus in Matthew 4 and Jesus replied, it is written. If you don’t know what is written, you will be written off. When you hear that satan spoke to Jesus don’t think that he went to Him to talk in his ear. It was from his mind. Don’t you stay like this and you begin to think some things that are contrary to the Word of God? Church Gist. Satan is contending with you. Imagine if Jesus never read the Word? Satan’s greatest fear is your discovery of the Word of God. John 8:32. Satan is helpless against you knowledge of the Word of God so go for personal discovery of the Word.
PRACTICAL STEPS TO STUDYING GOD’S WORD
1) Self discipline: 1 Corinthians 9:27. Discipline in this context is a conscious effort to birth a habit. Church Gist. You schedule a time of the morning when you study the Bible and pray. You know why? Successful people do daily what unsuccessful people do occasionally.
I was talking to a child who was angry over something and I said, ‘do you want to be a champion? Champions do what they hate to get what they want. Church Gist. You don’t have to like what you want to do but because you want to be a champion you have to get up to do what you hate to get what you want.’
Every student hates to read but to be a first class student, you have to read. If I am fat and I want to slim, I have to eat what I don’t like to be able to come down.
You want to be great, you have to read Bible to be a strong Christian in Christ. Church Gist. You can’t study the Word without self discipline because God’s Word can change your attitude and give you wisdom for living and prepare you for Heaven. The more you read, the more your attitude changes.
2) Look for Bible font you love to read: some persons like big prints, some people like the one they marked with red, look for the one you like and read. Church Gist. Make sure you look for a Bible you love to read.
3) Set an attainable goal: you can begin each morning with a chapter a day and progress. As a habit, start now with one chapter a day and then begin to progress. With such attitude, your confidence in God will increase. Your consciousness of God and His Word will be building you. Church Gist. The more you read the Word, the more the Word of God dwells in you. Keep reading and before you know it, it becomes a part of your life. A research has shown that if you do anything for about 30 days it becomes a part of you. You must connect your new habit to something you are already doing. No day will pass without you reading the Word and when that habit is formed, you find out that your life is going forward.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to impact in you the passion to read the Bible as a lifestyle.
