8th March 1895: The Hope Waddell Training Institute is established in Calabar, Nigeria, after moving to its permanent site. Founded by missionaries from the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland and named in honor of the Reverend Hope Masterton Waddell, the institution became a foundational center for education and missionary work in the region.

8th March 1782: In a tragic event known as the Gnadenhutten massacre, ninety-six Native Americans who had converted to Christianity and were living in the Moravian Brethren town of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, are killed by local militiamen in retaliation for raids that occurred elsewhere in the territory.

8th March 1856: William Bramwell Booth is born. He was the second General of The Salvation Army and succeeded his parents, founders William and Catherine Booth, to serve in this leadership group capacity from 1912 until 1929. He eventually passed on to glory at the age of 73.

8th March 1887: Congregational minister Henry Ward Beecher passes away at age 73. An impassioned abolitionist and widely considered the most famous American preacher of his era, his legacy remains significant in the history of the American pulpit.

8th March 1948: The U.S. Supreme Court issues a ruling in the landmark ‘McCollum v. Board of Education’ case, finding that religious instruction in public schools violates the First Amendment of the Constitution.


9th March 1957: Pastor Yemi Osinbajo is born. He is a senior advocate, former Vice President of Nigeria and an ordained minister who has maintained a long-standing commitment to the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

8th March 2019: Precious Cornerstone University (PCU) holds its maiden matriculation ceremony. Located at Garden of Victory, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, the faith-based institution is owned by The Sword of the Spirit Ministries and received its operating license in 2017.


8th March 1740: In Nottingham, Pennsylvania, colonial American Presbyterian revivalist Gilbert Tennent preaches his famous sermon, “The Danger of an Unconverted Ministry.” Reaction by opponents of the Great Awakening produces the first split in the Presbyterian Church into Old Side and New Side factions, and the two sides reunited in 1758.
