I Came in contact with Church Gist through a friend in 2021. I was very excited to see a media platform that was dedicated to the Church and was aimed at influencing the narrative of what people thought about the Church.
In 2020 when the lockdown started, my church, Family Worship Centre didn’t quite fit in because we weren’t used to social media as a tool for reaching the world. I formed part of the committee that was to create a road map for the church to build an online presence. That opened my eyes to the huge gap we had left on social media.
Church Gist has been a great addition to the body of Christ. I see it as a “church” in the digital world. It is that unifying place where Christians of all denominations come together as one without any form of discrimination. It has created a form of stability to the unending backlash that the church has been facing on social media over the years by telling “the true stories”. It is so commendable how this media page became the number one trusted source of information when it relates to church matters. It created a voice for Christians to fight back when bullied and to create their narrative against defending the world’s narrative.
It’s only going to get bigger. Social media is taking over the order of the day. Things that should have been addressed privately are now being discussed on social media. For every occasion, people just want to pull out a phone, video, or tweet about it. Violent and dirty content is also gaining more popularity thereby influencing people negatively. As a result of this growing trend, I see Church Gist bridging the gap for the Christian community. People know that they can still be on social media and get wholesome, clean content. As for those clean content creators, they know that there is a community that is ready to hear them. Beyond being a page, Church Gist is creating a movement.
