Everything that is not working in your life, today, it shall work!
Dr Pastor Paul Enenche at First Service, Glory Dome, Abuja on ‘Hindrances to the Life of Dedication’.
2Timothy 3:1-5
- The Bible makes it clear that as we approach the end of time, it is going to become increasingly difficult to remain dedicated to God.
THINGS THAT HINDER DEDICATION TO GOD:
1) Societal Influence (Exodus 23:2)
Societal influence is:
- the temptation to belong
- the temptation to do what the multitude is doing
- the fear of being labelled antisocial
- You don’t need to belong to the crowd to make sense on Earth
- There is no need to fear being labelled antisocial; for as a matter of fact, it is better to stand alone than to stand with the wrong crowd
- It doesn’t matter what people feel about you as long as God feels alright about you
- It doesn’t matter what people say of you for as long as God is alright with you
2) Comparison With Others (2Corinthians 10:12)
Comparison is:
- using the commitment of others as the standard for personal commitment
- using the zeal and passion of others to justify personal reason and passion
- the decision to bring your commitment down to the level of others
‘’Nobody is giving and I’m doing all the giving, nobody is praying and I’m doing all the praying. I think I have to reduce my own too” No sir! You cannot do that because you have a different account to give to God.
Everyone will give the account of HIS OWN LIFE to God, so you cannot use anybody’s zeal, passion, commitment or fire as a benchmark for your own.
3) Earthly-mindedness (Romans 12:1-2; Colossians 3:1-2)
- When the mind of a person is centred on the Earth, it is not possible to be committed to God
- Earthly-mindedness refers to the heart that is choked with the affairs and issues of this life. Once that happens, the mind becomes bankrupt of passion for God. (Matthew 13:22)
These are the kinds of people, when you talk about football, they come alive, when you talk about fashion, they come alive but when you talk about spiritual things, it is zero!
We must come to the point where we realize that this world is not our home; we are just passing through. The worst thing that can happen to anybody is to come to the motor park and settle.
Everything we have, every money we have, every cloth we have and every position we have is to prepare us for our ultimate home – Heaven.
4) Ungodly Company (1Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 13:20)
- The kind of person you call your friend can become the greatest damage or the greatest blessing of your life
Ungodly company:
- produces ungodly influence that attacks commitment to God
- has the tendency to undermine our zeal and passion for God
- has the tendency to mock your devotion and dedication to God
- No association, company or relationship leaves you neutral!
5) The Life of Compromise (Matthew 24:12; Proverbs 28:1; Isaiah 59:1-2)
- Iniquity attacks love for God (Matthew 24:12)
- Sin reduces our spiritual authority and audacity (Proverbs 28:1)
- When your conscience is clear, your boldness is sure
- Iniquity attacks our vocality
- Sin brings distance between man and God (Isaiah 59:1-2)
6) The Self-first Mentality (Matthew 6:33; 8:21-22)
- The self-first mentality is the enemy of the God-first lifestyle and it is the God-first mentality that guarantees our goodly outcome on Earth
- You can serve God as a civil servant, a doctor or even a lawyer with the usefulness of your life, don’t put everything else first and put God last (Matthew 8:21-22)
My concern is that you do away with everything that has hampered your dedication to God so that you will not live a wasted life.
I pray for your harvest from the North, East, West and South; everything that is yours shall look for you!
